Waituna Notes.
( [FROM OUIt OWN CORRESPONDENT. I 1 The welcome rains we have had lately were sadly needed to replenish the wa ; ' ter tanks. Our pasture land had not ' suffered to the extent that staffer soils ' did, but the moisture will freshen things up a bit. The amber cane growing beside maize does not show up to advantage, this season at least, as it does not crop so heavy as maize, and is a much more tender plant when frost is about. Several changes are taking place. Mr f F. Bismarck one of the pioneers of Bea- . consfield, has sold out, and is going to live at Apiti. Mr Cawood, of Makino, is coming to take Mr Bismarck's place. Fruit is very scarce here this year, and [ cherries were a total failure. If Mr [ George Wilks would instruct us how to grow this fruit he would confer a blessing on the district. On Friday last the "Waituna and Stanway school children went on an excursion by rail to the Wauganui Heads and they all enjoyed the outing very much.
