Wellington Land Board.
The adjourned meeting of the above was held yesterday. Present— The Commissioner (in the chair) Messrs Stevens, Hogg and Fred Pirani,M's.H.R., and A. W. Fitzherbert. A number of deferred thirds were passed for payment to local bodies. It was decided to inform the Minister for lands that the absence of a ranger from the district is causing great inconvenience to settlers and the Board and if a ranger is not appointed at once it will be impossible to complete the inspections before the roads get bad. In reference to the Makuri valuations a hitch in the negotiations for re-offering the land cropped up in a letter from the Head Department, it having been pointed out that the right to surrender existed either under the Act of 1885 or the Act of 1892, but in the former case the land would have to be offered for lease by auction — It was decided to notify the selectors what the position was, and to a9k them to state under which Act they wished to surrender. It was decided to exempt Messrs Hair Bros from double improvements on section 14, Block IX, Apiti, after the second year. The Board then adjourned. — Standard.
