Feilding School Committee.
A special meeting of the Feilding State School Committee was held last evening Present— Messrs H. "Worsfold (chairman), W. G. Haybittle, J. Taylor, W. Cartkew, R. J. Thompson, J. Gould, A. W. Parker, C. Bray. junr. An apology was received from Mr Shearer for non attendance. The question of a picnic for the school children was discussed, the chairman stating there was only £5 19s in hand for this purpose. It was resolved on the motion of Mr Bray, seconded by Mr Parker, That the school children's excursion be to Kakariki, and that arrangements be made for a special train to start at 9 a.m. and return at 5 p.m. Resolved, That Mr Bray be asked to arrange with the owners of properties for the necessary grounds. Resolved, That the chairman and secretary be instructed to make the necessaay arrangements with the railway authorities, and that the picnic take place on or about Friday, March 6th. Resolved, That the expenditure of the money in hand (£5 19s) be left in the hands of the chairman and secretary. A suggestion was made that the money should be spent in providing tea and toys as prizes for children's races. the parents and children to bring their own provisions. With reference to the complaints ag£iin&t Miss Hayne. the head master reported that Mrs Barker had allowed so long a time to lapse between the alleged severe pnnishment and laying the complaint that he could not obtain any evidence in support of the charge, which appeared to be without foundation. He suggested that when parents have any complaints to make they sbould be reported to him next day, so that he could make immediate enquiry. As to Mrs Turner's complaint against the same teacher he had made enquiries, and found it to be frivolous. Resolved, That in the opinion of this meeting Mrs Turner's complaint against Miss Hayne is frivolous. Resolved, That as Mrs Barker's complaint was dated 17 days after the alleged offence was committed this committee has no opportunity of dealing with the case. Resolved, That in future all complaints against a subordinate teacher be sent within 24 hours to the chairman through the head master. Resolved. That iMr E. Goodbehere be appointed auditor. The head master reported that the average attendance for last week was 338-4, the highest attendance for one day being 349. The average attendance for the two quarters prior to the appointment of the truant inspector was 228.
