THE CROWN AND THE CHARTERED COMPANY. MR CHAMBERLAIN'S PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES. THE OUTWITTED GERMANS. (Per Press Association.) London, Feb. 10. Hon. Mr Chamberlain places the Chartered Company's police under the command of the Crown officers. Mr Rhodes has decided that no natives in Rhodesia will be supplied with alcohol. It is reported that Mr Rhodes will attend the trial of Dr Jameson. Both tho Times and the Standard welcome the prospect of a visit by President Erugerand Dr Leyds to England. Berlin, Feb. 10. The Berlin newspapers publish articles in vilification of Mr Chamberlain. Rome, Feb. 10. Italy has appointed a Consul in the Transvaal.
