(Per Press Association'). Wellington, February 7. The fire on Lumsden bridge was extinguished by the timely arrival of men before any serious damage was done. Pahiatua, Feb. 7. The still was found on the property of the Browns at Tuataeknra, and is complete, including whiskey in all stages, barley, malt, etc. Further arrests are pending. Constable Cooper who affected the arrests along with others had been searching for some time for this still which was situated on the bank of a creek about a mile from the main road. Auckland, February 7. A native named Kori Nakina, who escaped from custody on the third inst. at Mongonui, has surrendered himself at Kataia to two native police stationed there. The charges against Kori are stealing letters from a mail bag and ge^Information has been received by Inspector Hickson that a man, name unknown, was found drowned in the Wade River. James Stokes, a cab driver, aged 30, was riding a horse last night double-bank with another man and fell off at the enttrance to Pullan and Armitage's stables, he was put to bed, but getting worse, he was taken to the hospital, where the base of his skull was found to be fractured. It is likely he will recover. He is a married man. Later. James Stokes died in the hospital today.
