THE PUBLIC LIBRARY.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib, — Since my letter was published yesterday the chairman of the Library Committee has informed me I was in error in stating that the ratepayers were excluded from one room " because the : chairman said it was right " ; the true , fact being that the whole of the com* mittee of nine (some of whom are not ratepayers) were agreed on the point. The charge of 2s 6d per quarter should have read 4s. I was also informed that all ratepayers may read the books presented by Mrs Macarthur free of charge. I hasten to make this correction. I think it is only right our worthy Mayor should ascertain in the interest of, and let the ratepayers know, whether the committee are or are not justified in their action. I am, etc., Alfred Eade.
