The Wool Market.
(Per Press Association.) London, Jan. 30. The Manclienter wool importers consider that tbe trip of the steamer Gulf of of Siam is a good stare aud it has been unanimously determined to support the service. Toey hope that they will soon secure reduction in Yorkshire railway rates. Consignees have expressed surprise and satisfaction ai the facilities offered at Manchester for storing wool The present series of wool sales closed with a strong upward tendency and with the highest prices secured during the series. Jan. 31. The total quantity of wool catalogued at the series was 192,000 bales. 22,000 bales was held over, 105,000 sold for export, aud 78,000 sold for the Home trado. Dunedin, January 81. Tbe third wool sales were held to-day when thero was a larger attendance of i buyers than usual, aud they competed freely for line balfbred and crossbred, and all descriptions of meriuo, prices for such showing jd to :\d advance, more especially in respect to meriuo. On the other hand the demand for coarse crossbred and hali'hred was much less keen, and prices ruled slightly lower. The number of bales catalogncd was about 7300. Quotations— Extra bright lustrous crossbred, B=}d to 9£d ; good bright lustrous crossbred, 8d to Bij-d ; medium crossbred and half bred, 7d to 7sd ; bright halfbred, Sd to 9d ; heavy, earthy, and discoloured halfbred, 6:} dto 7;Jd ; bright merino, 7d to bid ; heavy merino, 5Ad to 6fd ; good pieces, Od|to 7:] d ; medium pieces, 3|d to 4 ; ; d ; locks, 1M to iHd.
The following is contained in a cable lncssage received by the N.Z L and M.A. Company (Ltd) from their London office, under date 80th January : — Wool — The sales closed firmly this day. Since close of last sales, greasy washed and scoured merino superior | greasy aud scoured merino, medium and inferior ; greasy merino lambs, superior, medium and inferior ; and greasy crossbred lambs are a |d to Id per lb higher. Washed merino medium and inferior, fine greasy crossbred, and slipe merino are |d per lb higher. Medium greasy, washed and scoured crossbred ; and coarse greasj', washed and scoured crossbred are par to kd per lb lower,. Other descriptions unchanged. The total quantity sold during the past sales is ISB,OOO bales, of which 84.000 bales have been taken for the Continent, and 21,000 bales for America. It is estimated that 22,000 bales have been held over for future disposal. Messrs Murray, Roberts and Co. have received the following wool market cablegram from their London house, 'Messrs Sanderson, Murray and Co., cfated ?Qbh January :— The sales have Closed very Jfi'rm.'
