O Thirty-seven horses have been nominated for the Ashurst Hack Guineas, 1896, and thirty-eight horses for the Ashurst Hack Guineas, 1897. Horseowners are reminded that acceptances for the Woodville races are due with the Secretary, Mr W. Nicholson, at 8 o'clock to-morrow evening. A sum of £19,000,000 was invested in tbe totalisator during the last racing season in France, 2 per cent, of which (£360,000) was distributed among the charities. The subject of the totalisator cropped up in the Chamber of Deputies, and tbe Abbe Lamire's motion for its suppression was rejected by 383 to 98 votes. (Per Press Association.) Melbourne, Jan. 28. Mostyn and Destiny have been scratched for the Newmarket Handicap.
