Sudden Death in Palmerston.
• An awful sudden death occurred in Palmerston last night. About half-past seven o'clock Miss Edith Annis Piercy, a dressmaker, aged 22 years, was walking towards the railway station accompanied by Miss Maule, when the former remarked to her companion how well she felt, and no sooner had she finished the sentence when she burst a blood vessel and fell to the ground. Miss Maule assisted Miss Piercy to her sister's house (Mrs John Low's), Cuba street, where she resided. The unfortunate sufferer sat on the verandah and died in a few minutes. Dr Satchell was summoned, but before he arrived Miss Piercy had expired. It appears that deceased caught a severe cold last winter and was treated in the hospital, but left that institution shortly before Christmas. Her mother resides at Christchurch.— Standard.
