(Per Press Association). Auckland, Dec. 9. Inspector Hickson has received word from Port Albert, stating that Dr Hudeon has been missing from the 19th November. Search has been made in the rivers and adjacent districts, but no definite tidings have been obtained of the missing man. The ten-roomed house of Mr Watson, settler, Oiahuhu, has been burned down Insurance, Ll5O in New Zealand office. The origin of the fire is unknown. Mr Justice ConoJly made a decree absolute in the action for divorce, Wm. Courtney v. Mary Courtney (respondent) and Francis Damiens (corespondent). Mr Wm. Edgecombe, an old identity, died aged 85 He arrived at Wellington in 1841. He was one of the party who proceeded in the Amelia Thompson to the site where New Plymouth stands and assisted in founding it in 1841. He ar rived at Auckland in 1846. Wangantji, Dec. 9. Mr A. D. Willis addressed the electors to-night. He generally eapported the actions of the Seddon Government and warmly Mr Ward. He received a vote of thanks and confidence Dunedin, Dec. 9. G. W. Harold, employed at the gaswarks, attempted to commit euicide this evening by going into the water in the harbor. He appears to have changed his mind when he got into the water, and when noticed, owing to his having left his coat on tibe wharf, he was clinging to the stringer when he was rescued none the worse for his ducking. He is 31 years of age and married. Domestic trouble is said to be the cause of the act. Tb© ship Canterbury arrived at the Heads this afternoon for orders. Christchubch, Dec. 9. It rained heavily all night and the rivers are more or less flooded. Wellington, This Day. The Premier promised the Industrial Association to give £500, half for the building and half for general expenses, towards an exhibition on the condition it was as good as the Christchnrch one. The President said £1000 wonld be spent on the buildings. A young man named James Dalgetty is supposed to be drowned in the Tanera river, Wairarapa, while crossing a ford. His horse was found on a shingle bank in the centre of the river, which is in high flood. Napier, December 9. A curious accident happened at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Wairoa yesterday morning. A number of young girls were receiving |their first Communion, when one named Grace Harmer became faint, and fell against the candle she held in her hand. Her veil ignited, and the side of her face was burned a good deal but not seriously. D. Guy's Waireka station homestead has been destroyed by fire. The build* ing was insured but Mr Guy is a loser. Mr Gordon (manager) and his wife lost everything. _'
