At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Shipping Company to-day the report of the London Board, recommending the payment of a dividend of 4 per cent, was adopted. Wellington, Dee. 3. Nothing has yet been seen of the barque Weatherfield, sighted in the straits eight days ago. She is now 139 days out. It is supposed she must have been driven up the coast towards Taranaki. The evidence at the Arbitration Court to-day was devoted to the question of mining reserves and will be for some time. Some of the same witnesses will be re-called to give evidence as to timber. There is not the slightest chance of the case being finished by Christmas, but the end of January is more probable. Bain fell on 20 days last month and the total was 5*9 inches, the average for the month being 4*l. At Masterton the fall, 7 3, was the highest ever registered for November. Auckland, Deer. 3. The body of Patrick Doherty was found by the roadside, three miles from Puhoi. The infant son of W. Howell, Upper Waiwera, had followed his . mother to a well and was supposed to have returned home. On the mother searching the well, the child was found drowned. At the Police Court fines and costs amounting to £19 were imposed on two persons for having fished out of season. Dunedin, Dec. 8. Captain Richardson, at present in the Tekapo, takes temporary- charge of the Wakatipa while the Tekapo is laid up. The Flora was placed in charge of Caph Farineer, but she is now laid up. Capt. Waller was only in command until his own vessel, the Rotomahana, was recommissioned. Consequent on his suspension the Botonaahana, has been given to Capt. BentJey, formerly of the Tasmania, who has been lately in charge of the Taupo.
