Fry, of Makino, for the following weather report:—The rainfall for November, 1895, was 5-12 inches, which fell on 22 days, against 370 inches on 18 days for the same period in 1894, being considerabl} 7 above that of any rainfall for the same month for several years. South Australia seems to possess several professors of the noble art in its Legislature. Not so very long ago the Premier turned the tables on a gentleman who attempted to horse-whip him, and administered a severe thrashing to the aggregator, while the other day Mr Henry Allerdale Grainger, M.P., was fined £5 for assaulting a squatter named Crittenden in the public street. The Empire Tea Company have justly acquired the reputation of dealing fairly and squarely with their patrons. Another proof of their fair dealing is to be seen in the fact that although the duty on tea has been reduced, they, as the producers, have not gained the advantage, but have let the customers have the benefit of the reduction. This is, of course, how matters should be, bat as ibis is an age in which everyone is eternally trying to get the better of everybody else such little items as these are worth mentioning. In another column appears a list of the alterations in price of the Empire Company's tea which we may remark en passant still maintain their deservedly high reputation for quality and unapproachable value. A rather peculiar incident is reported in connection with the sad death of Mr Alfred Williams, who lost his life whilst attempting to cross the Maraetotara creek near dive, last week. Deceased's father, who is employed at Clive Grange was at work in a shed on the Tuesday afternoon, and about the hour at which the fatality is reported to have taken place be distinctly heard what be took to be cries of his son calling him. Mr Williams went outside and looked round about the shed, but failing to find anyone who could possibly have called him he returned to his work, concluding that he must have imagined the sound of the voice. Later on the news of his son's sad death was broken to the old man. Is this an instance of psychic force ? " When a thing that is advevtisod greatly is good, it goes, and goes permanently ; when it is bad, it only goes for a while : the public finds it out." So says Mr Hall Came in the "Idler." This is true of the Suratura tea which was placed prominently before the New Zealand public about two years ago, the delicate flavour and wonderful economy of ►that blend of tea making it popular, a steady and substantial increase in its sale being sufficient proof.
