State from 4 to 3 per cent, but the Post Office Savings Bank is still giving 4 per cent oo deposits np to £200 and 3£ up to £500. We have very little doubt that the money available under the Advances to Settlers Act has had the effect of restricting business where the high rates of a few months ago are expected, and whether the securities are " gilt edged " or not borrowers cannot be blamed for going to the cheapest market. On the subject of exports our contemporary thinks there is good reason to anticipate ! that with improved prices for wool and the increased output of gold the current year will present a very satisfactory result as compared with last year.
