South Australian Railways.
(Per Press Association.} Adelaide, This Day. The Auditor-General's annual report states the railways cost the colony for construction and redemption, and an additional £1,678,000 in excess of their earnings. There is reason to believe the amount to debit would be considerably increased if the interest account was thoroughly revised. In regard to the Northern Territory he states the present revenue is only about half the expenditure. The indebtedness is constantly increasing, so that unless circumstances materially improve it will require a loan of half a million to repay the advance made out of public revenue and to meet the expenses for the next two or three years. .
