Last Season's Wool Clip.

The total wool clip for the Colony for tbe season ending September 30th was 129,333,7691 b, valued at £4,026,120, an increase in weight of 853,3121 b, but a declared decrease in value of £363,125. A different valuation is apparantly put upon wool in the two islands, for while 64,970,2261 b from the North Island is valued at £1,994,132, a total of 64,363,---5431 b, or rather less, in the South Island, is valued at £2,031,968. This is the more remarkable as the South Istand Bhips a large proportion of merino wool, which has been very low in value. On the whole the flocks must have carried considerably heavier fleeoes, as tbe increase in weight is coincident with a heavy decrease in the flocks. In the South Island the sheepfarmers must have had a very good season for wool, for notwithstanding a larger decrease in sheep in the South Island the clip there increased 3,145,0001 b, while the North Island clip decreased 2,291,5001 b The largest decrease was at Napier, where the shipments were 20,692,2491 b, valued at L 676.759, compared with 22,286,9811 b, valued at L 752.028 in the previous season. This was not, however, due to the trade of the port going elsewhere, as the only port at which Hawke's Bay wool could b» shipped is Wellington, and there also there was a decrease, from 26,357 ,2861 b to 25,174,7851 b. Wellington headed the list, Lyttelton coming second with 23,---465,8411 b, Napier third, Tiuaara fourth with 10,643,1761 b, and Dunedin, fifth with 10,828,9091b.— Hawke's Bay Herald.
