Frozen Meat Trade.
(Per Press Association). Melbourne, September 3 The Minister of Agriculture has communicated with the Pastoral and Agricultural Societies with the view of obtaining their opinions on the formation of a trust for the development of the meat and produce export trade. The proposal is to empower a trust to levy a tax of 2s per hundred sheep and per score of cattie for the purpose of erecting freezing works in Melbourne and other large centres. The money is to be raised by Government on guaranteed debentures, and repaid out of the proceeds of the tax. The majority of the societies are opposed to the scheme for yarious reasons, and others are doubtful of its feasibility.
