The business at the Feilding S.M. Court was again delayed tbis morning, and it was not until 10.30 any information was available as to what time the Magistrate would be prepared to open tbe Court. Recently the sittings of the S.M. Haybittle's string band will supply tbe necessary music, and with such a combination we shall be in. deed surprised if tbey are not greeted with a crowded house. In Nelson, not long ago, the churchwardens " sang a sorrowful song " anent tbe queer things wbich were put in tbe the offertory bags instead of coins. This is not new because thirty years ago in Christchurch, Dean Jacobs once told the congregation, " Small coins or coppers Ido not object to ; custom bas rendered me callous to buttons, but I must certainly draw tbe line at pepperment lozenges." But worse remains to be told though the scene was in a very bigb church in Folkestone, England. Once upon a time tbe clergyman said " As you leave the church those interested will see bung on a board buttons and things which have been pnt in the offertory instead of money." The people saw and admired — but tbe lesson did no good because next Sunday the astonished parson found in tbe offertory buttons with strings attached all ready to be bung up as examples. Tbe homely tin plate is far better than tbe gorgeous velvet bag, and should again be resorted to.
