At the Police Court to-day Isaac .Levy licensee of the Albion Hotel, was fined i.o on each of the charges of selling liquor during prohibited hours and permitting gambling in his hotel. The convictions were ordered to be endorsed on his license. Dunedin August 8. As an outcome of the inquest touching the death of Nicholas Been who was found in a dying condition near the racecourse, proceedings have been instituted by the police against the licensee of the Metropole Hotel, at St. Clair, for permitting drunkenness on his premises. The High School Board of Governors to day appointed Mr Wilson, M.A. Rector of the Girls' School [to be Rector of the Boys' High School. AUCKLAND, August 6, John Grubb and Susan Jane Corbett were committed for trial on a charge in connection with forging the name cf Fanny Corbett to a letter of credit drawn on the Union Bank. The charge ot alleged impersonation against Jas Corley, the younger, at the recent City election, was adjourned till Monday. Wellington, August 5. The Educational Conference opens at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning. About 200 designs have been sent in for competition for prizes for the best two series of designs for the New Zealand Postal and revenue stamps.
