The Stock Market.

Messrs Gorton and Son held their stock sale yesterday, when the entries were good and the prices satisfactory. There was a large attendance of farmers. Mr Hirst's property of 581 acres in the Pohangina district, which, was, offered for sale was passed in. j Matthew Henry reports at Palmerston as follows :— A very limited entry of cattle and sheep came forward to-day. There was a good attendance, but bidding was by no means brisk. A fair clearance was made at quotations. Cattle— Dairy cows, L 3 15s to L 4 17s 6d. Sheep— Ewes in lamb 5s 9d; fat ewes 7s. Pigs — Weaners, 6s. Messrs Lowes and lorns report at their stock sale on Thursday. Sheep yarded far in excess of the advertised list and the quality was mostly first-class. At the commencement of the sale purchasers were cautious and several lots were passed, but as the sale progressed bidding improved and, with the exception of two line 3 upon which too high reserves were placed, all sold at good figures. OJE \ large entry of cattle two pens were un,-. sold; their want of condition and' thai scarcity of grass kept prices do^n. Beef was represented by faf steere, which made gqod market values. Dairy stock was plentiful, but qn]y good sorts near to pro. fit sold. The following are the prices obtained s— Fat ewes, 8a 6d; forward, 7s; 6tore ewes, 4s Gd to 6s ; ewes in lamb, best, 8s 6d ; medium, 63 6d ; store weti hers, Bs. Fat steers. £6 ; large stores, £s'; 2-year steers, 50a to 60s; 18-tuonths, 30s toMOi ; ye irling?, 335 ; calves, 22f ; dairy cow?, £'4 to M 12s 60.; heifers, £3 10s to M 12s 6d.
