RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION IN SCHOOLS.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sir, — If there is any truth in the statement made by your correspondent " More Light," " That a large percentage of the residents of the Borough are in the dark on this important subject "(which I very much doubt), I would take advantage of the medium of your valuable columns to enlighten them ; a means, to my mind, preferable to calling a public meeting for that purpose. I don't know how many people read the Stah, but I feel sure, that they number far iuore than might be expected to attend a public meeting, The petition which you have published in full speaks for itself, viz. : " That the Education Act be so r oended as to provide for religious instruction in schools," &o. The canvassers are, I think, competent to explain the nature of the petition to any who, like your correspondent, want " more light," and those who are of his opinion need not sign it. So far, I for one have had no refusals. I am, &c, Alan S. Ijwes Jones.
