I Per Press Association] Sydney. This Day. A subsidence of 20 feefc occurred near the seat of the fire. If the fire can be limited to the upper levels and no subsidence of the timbers of the lower levels than 200 feet, the damage will be minimised as it is intended to cease work in this portion of the mine. 70,000 gallons of water per hour are being pumped into the mine. The work of putting in blasts to shake down the ground to smother the fire is attended with great danger. About midday the overhanging cliff of the wall gave way and the men engaged there had to abandon their tools and to hurry away for their lives. Within an hour a yawning chasm separated the detached rock from the solid ground. The pumping of gas is proceeding. This last recourco the directors were reluctant to use as it will take some time to rid the mine of the gas,
