A Timber Vessel in Distress.
o(PEE PBKSS ASSOCIATION). Wellington, July 10. The barque George Thompsor which left Kaipara on June Ist fo Glasgow with a load of timber, put i here to-day in distress. The vessc had experienced a succession of heaA^ gales, which caused a leak, and oi June 23, in longitude 15S west, th water was making such rapid progres that the crew went aft and asked th Captain to head for the neatest port which was done^ The vessel was no then out of trouble, as a succession o hard gales was met with. The pump: were sounded to a depth of sft. Gin. which was reduced in fine weather t< 2ft. lOin. On July 7th a southerl) breeze sprung up, and she came or here. The damage is at present un known, but the vessel is still leaking and it is feared the sternpost is
