LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, July 5. The Council met at 2.30. The Hon. McGregor's Divorce Eill was read a first time. Hon. Mr Shrimski inquired if the Government would protest the police and more especially Inspector Broham of Christshureh. from the gross asper- : sions levelled against them by the leaders of the temperance movement-. Sir P. Buckley said the Government could not interfere. If Inspector Broham had been scandalised or defamed, he had his remedy by civil law. The Hikutaia Block Bill was read a second time. The Council rose at 3.30.
