Birmingham Notes.
[from our own correspondent, i A lecture was delivered in the Town Hall, Birmingham, last evening, by the Rev. Mr Lee of Palmerston, " The Scenery of the North Island of New Zealand." Owing to the bad state of the roads and the inclement weather the attendance was small. Mr Lee exhibited a number of pictures through a limelight view, which worked very -well. Among the pictures exhibited were the Empire City, Auckland, New Plymouth, and Napier, the prettiest spots being well described by the lecturer ; also, the" once famous pink and white terraces, which were destroyed in 1886; the hot springs and geysers, and also some very curious rocks situated in the several harbors. The lovely foliage and ferns of our Island, and several specimens of the Maori race, were also well shown. Mr Lee promised to give at some future date, the " Scenery of the South Island," which will, I think, be equally as interesting as the one given last night. At the close of the meeting a vote of thanks was accorded Mr Lee. The proceeds were in aid of the-local circuit fund. The quarterly meeting of the Wesleyan Methodist circuit was held yesterday at Birmingham. The income exceeded the expenditure by a few pounds, notwithstanding that it was the heaviest quarter of the year. It was resolved to change the morning service , from half past eleven to two o'clock. .
