DR GRACE ON AUSTRALIAN CRICKET.
(Per Press Association)!* London, Juno 21. In an interview, Dr W. G. Grace said he would like to see every cricket match between England and Australia played to a finish. However, while the Australians were in England this was impracticable unless county matches were abandoned. The Manchester merchants have asked Mr Gillies, the Victorian Agent-General, to include direct shipments of produce to Manchester in the tenders for the carriage of Victorian produce which he is now inviting. The illness of Sir J. B. Thurston delays his return to the Pacific Islands until the end of September, when he travels via the Vancouver route. He is confident that the native taxation scheme has enlarged the hopes and interest of the English capitalists in Fiji. Washington, Juue 21. American financiers are arranging to offer to furnish China with 200,000,000 taels of silver to pay the war indemnity.
