Ransjitikei Licensing Victualler's Association.
The second annual meeting of the Rangitikei Licensed Victualler's Asso ciation was held at the "White Hart Ho tel yesterday afternoon. Those present were Messrs Bastiugs (Fcikling), chairman ; Gibbons (Marfcon), South (Marfcon), Light (Feildiug), Milligan (Ohiugaiti), Hunt (Marton), Mitchill (Huntervillc) Mayo (Martou), Sullivan (Huntervillo), Ryan (Cheltenham), Mcllroy (Pemberton), Curran (Ohingaiti) Dickson (Feilding), Hathaway (Halcombe). The election of officers resulted as follows :— Mr H. Bastings President ; S. Gibbons, Vice-President and Treasurer. Mr H. Bastings was elected Hon. Sec, pro torn. The President suggested that the Association should decide to make one of their members a Life Governor of the district hospital, so that cases of emergency could get admittance at a short notice. This was agreed to. The Chairman (Mr Bastings) pointed out to those present that they should empower their President to vote sums of money to deserving cases of assistance. He thought that, as they had funds in hand, the general public should know that they were above six penny drinks, and ready to assist those in trouble. A discussion took place and on the motion of Mr S. Gibbsons the Chairman's suggestion were agreed to and a sum of £2 voted to the Roskuge fund. Mr Gibbons suggested the advisability of quarterly meetings, the place of meeting to be left to the President. Mr R. Hunt seconded this. Mr Bastings opposed the motion on the ground that the meetfng of the As sociation should be representative, and, therefore, it was no good having gatherings except at centres. As an amendment he moved tnat the next meeting o f the Association be held at the time o f the annual licensing meeting, when a banquet be given. Mr Curran (Ohingaiti) seconded the amendment. The motion was put and declared lost tne amendment being carried by a good majority. ' Several other matters were discussed, and votes of thanks haying been passed to the President and Vice-President for their past services, those^ officers acknowledged the compliment, and the meeting ended,— Mercury.
