Fire Brigade Social.
The local Fire Brigade held a social and dance in the Foresters' Hall last evening and it was very well attended. The chief attraction was the presentation of prizes to the successful competitors at the competition on Queen's Birthday, by the Mayor, Mr W. A. Sandilands, who, in making the presentations, complimented the men on their efficiency. The following is a list of the prize-takers : — Lieut. Newman, Mr J. Scott's gold medal and Mr W. S. Tank's silver medal, hat, picture frames, writing desk, cruet, album; Foreman Mueller, 21s cash, cloth for suit, pair boots, lamp, chair ; Fireman J. Humphrey, 21s cash, set trays, cloth for suit, pair boots, butter cooler ; Fireman Gosling, pair pictures, trays, cigars, boots, 2s 6d cash ; Fireman Hicks, hat, barometer, whip ; Fireman Parkes, 10s cash, pipe, rug, clock ; Fireman Macfarlane, lOOlbs of flour, cruet brushes ; Fireman Boyd, accordeon, fern stand. During the evening songs were given by Messrs A. Eade, Boyd and W. Baker. Tha music was supplied by MrR. F. Haybittle and Mr R. Newman acted as M.C.
