♦— (Per Press Association) Auckland, May 25 The annual bicycle race irom Parnell to Papakura, under the auspices of the Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club resulted in a win for B. Dudley by 45secs., Buchanan second, Thompson third. Surman finished eighth, beating the previous record by lusecs. Wellington, May 29. It has been decided not to repair the broken three-core cable across Cook Straits, but instead to lay another singlecore cable from Oterangi Bay to White's Bay in the South Island. This Day. A slight shock of earthquake was felt here at 10 35 this morning. Hawera, This Day. A young man named Morton sustained a fracture of the leg while playing football at Otakeho. The Hawera Star publishes a rumour that owing to a hitch Mr McEwan's appointment as chief dairy expert is suspended, and he returns almost immediately to Canada. Dunedin, This Day. While it rained incessantly in Dunedin all day yesterday, there was a heavy fall of snow at the Taieri and inland. On the plain trees were broken down by the weight of the snow as also the telegraph lines at Waihola.
