The Naval Brigade refused to accept the reduction in pay, and handed in their accoutrements, thus disbanding the crack force of the colony. The Central mine shareholders carried a motion in favor of the sale by 35 to 17. As a three-fourths majority is required a ballot is being taken ; but the sale is regarded as a foregone conclusion. Proxies representing 89,000 shares have been received in favor of the sale. The total amount of Income Tax received is .£168,800, averaging j-7 per taxpayer.
