The Apiti Bridge.

Mr Fred Pirani, M.H.R., recently wrote to the Minister of Lands in reference to the delay in gazetting the warrant authorising the construction ofthe bridge over the Oroua at Apiti and yesterday (says the Standard) received the following reply : — Sib, — In reply to your memo ol the 3rd inst. with reference to an appli- ! cation for a bridge over the Oroua River at Apiti, I have the honor to inform you that on March 29th a formal application for a warrant authorising the construction of the said bridge, was received from the Pohangina County Council, and stating that the Kiwitea County Council had after the exoirv of the due time under sec. 118 of' the Public Works Act, 1894, signified in writing its 'acceptance of the proposal made as to the proportion to be borne by that body. The warrant was prepared forthwith at this office, sent to Auckland in due course for signature executed by the Governor and returned to this office on 30 th ultimo. The papers reached this office on Saturday last (4th inst.) The warrant will appear in the next Gazette. The correspondence commenced on January 30th last, and two months' time for objections had to be allowed by the Act, therefore, so far from nothing having been done, as allegs.i by your letter, all possible expedition has been shown. — I have, &c.
