Manchester Road Board.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above body was held in their office, Feilding-, on Saturday afternoon last. Present — Messrs G-. Wheeler, J. Purki s, H. J. Booth, A. Cod way, W. G. Pearce. In the absence of the chairman (Mr F. V. Lethbrid^p) Mr Wheeler was voted to the chair. Th h minutes of the previous meetwere read find confirmed. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows : — From Thos. Vanson, calling the P card's attention to dang-erous state of culvert on Sioney Creek — Hunnythorpo rond From W. A. Sandilands, the Board's solicitor, a transfer for signature conveying land sold to R. Linton. From W. a. Sandilands, stating he had completed one of the documents of transfer ot the closed roads and he proposed to lodge it for registration. From C. Warne, drawing the Board's attention to the agreement re drains from the Pohangiua road on to his property, ana complaining that the w-iy they were left caused his property to be flooded. From Clerk Pohangina County Council, asking permission to make a bridle track on the Gor^e road, within the Manchester Road District. From W. Thompson, re change of name on rate roll for section 6, H, to G. S. Cawood. — To he referred to Assessment Court. From W. Akers, asking permis* sion to erect a gate across road at the termination leading to his property, Ashurst. From F. WilMscroft, asking that the name of T. JSicol be substituted on rate to'l for that of his for section part 28, subdivision M. — To be re« .ferred to Asse sment Court. From J. Cotter, asking the Board to reducj grade on hill leading past Ferry Reserve — ftesolved, Tiiat Board do nothing to road. From Undersecretary Department of Lands and t-urvey, enclosing copy of warrant authorising the Feilding Boron-fh Council to construct bridge over the Kiwitea on Kimbolton road. From E. J. Allan, Manager Bank of i\ew Zealand, re overdraft. From A. Waters, applying for expenses in connection with licensing commitfe meetings in 1892. Proposed by Mr Purkiss, seconded by Mr Pearce, That the action of Messrs Wheeler and Booth in accepting tenders for work on Makino road be approved of. — CJarried. Proposed by Mr Wheeler, seconded by Mr Conwav, That the balance standing to the debit ot the Board at tho Bank of New Zealand, Feiiding, on the 31st March, viz., £2180 13a 2d, be hereby made a liability ot the current year, and that arrangements be made with the Bank for an overdraft niariiin for the ensuing year up to the Boaxd's legal borrowing limit. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Booth, seconded by Mr Purkiss, That it is the intention of the Manchester Eoad Board, under tbe provisions of the Rating Act, 1894, to make a rate of one half of a penny in the £ on all rateable property within the Manchester Road district for the year ending Slat March 1896, such rate to become payable on. and after the 6th day of May, 1894, in one sum at the Board's office, Feilding. Proposed by Mr Wheeler, seconded by Mr Booth, That a fence be erected on that portion of the road encroached upon by the Makino stream and opposite the properties of Messrs Pilcher and L. Wheeler. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Purkiss, seconded by Mr Booth, That tenders be called for leasing the lower Gorge ferry reserve, Asburst, Tenders to close at the next meeting of the Board, and notice to be given to have all stock removed in the meantime. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Pearce, seconded by Mr Coaway, That the Engineer have the culvert on Stoney Creek-Bun-nythorpe road complained of by Mr Manson repaired. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Conway, seconded by Mr Purkiss, That the Manchester Road Board have no objection to the Pohangina Council forming bridle track on the Gorge road within the boundary of the Manchester Road Board district. — Carried. Resolved, That the Engineer have approach to culvert on Sandon-Kaka-riki road repaired. — Carried, Proposed by Mr Conway, seconded by Mr Pearce, That the Engineer inspect drains referred to by Mr Warne, also, site] of gate asked for by Mr Akers, and report oa same. —Carried. Mr F. L. Bihrent waited on the Board to aek that they form and metal seven chains of road in front of his propei ty on Shervill stre)t (HaTcombe) — Refeired to Engineer and Warden Purlu'.'S to report at next meeting.
