An iruproyed boat lowering apparatus invented by Captain Cameron, tbe Union Steam Ship Company's marine snperin tendent, was tested to-day on the steamer Te Anan in the presence of the managing director and others. Four bridge boats of the steamer were lowered in from 10 to 15 seconds. It is understood that all the steamers of the fleet will be fitted with the apparatus. Auckland, April 7. An enquiry was held by Mr J. P. Logan, local officer of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, assisted by a committee of the Auckland Club, in connection wiih the alleged misconduct of some of the Auckland representatives, who took, pact in the recent championship meeting at Napier. The annual exhibition of the Canterbury Society of Art was opened on Saturday evening by the Hob, E. C. J. Stevens President of the Societj'. The exhibits are eomewhat fewer than last year and number 211, Mastkrton, April 6. The Hon. J. McKenzie, Minister of Lands, arrived here to-duy. (
