An iruproyed boat lowering apparatus invented by Captain Cameron, tbe Union Steam Ship Company's marine snperin tendent, was tested to-day on the steamer Te Anan in the presence of the managing director and others. Four bridge boats of the steamer were lowered in from 10 to 15 seconds. It is understood that all the steamers of the fleet will be fitted with the apparatus. Auckland, April 7. An enquiry was held by Mr J. P. Logan, local officer of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, assisted by a committee of the Auckland Club, in connection wiih the alleged misconduct of some of the Auckland representatives, who took, pact in the recent championship meeting at Napier. A considerable amount of evidence was taken from those who were likely to throw any light on the charges made, and this will be forwarded to Christchurch. This Day A young man named Jamea Allcock, of Arch Hill, was thrown from his horse and dragged along the roadway. He was picked up unconscious, and died at midnight. Wellington, April 7. In all probability Mr Arthur Bae, Pre» eident of the Australian Workers' Union, will attend the Conference at Teniuka this month in order to kiy before the dele gates the position in regard to the Australian shearers dispute. The Masonic Newspaper Company, Limited, which has been formed to acquire the copyright of the New Zealand Craftsmen, and remove ibe phice of publication from Auckland to Wellington, is to be registered forthwith. Chbistchurch, April 7. Janet Campbell, 24 years of age. employed in tbe dressmaking department of the D.I.C , died suddenly yesterday. The cause is believed to be heart disease. The annual exhibition of the Canterbury Society of Art was opened on Saturday evening by the Hob, E. C. J. Stevens President of the Societj'. The exhibits are eomewhat fewer than last year and number 211, Mastkrton, April 6. The Hon. J. McKenzie, Minister of Lands, arrived here to-duy. (
