Cricket News.
One of the most interesting and enjoyable matches of this season waa played on the local ground yesterday afternoon when the married and single men of Feilding met in friendly con- . test. The game was played in the best of spirits, and, contrary to the opinion of many, was a very evenly contested one, the married men proving tougher gentry than they were given credit for. If more of these local matches were arranged there is not the slightest doubt but what there would be a decided revival in cricket in Feilding, and from the form shown by many of our men this season there is not the slightest reason why we should not produce the strongest team on this coast. The match yesterday consisted of fifteen men aside. The benedicts went first to the wickets, and, before all were disposed of, 117 runs were put up, Reade, with 45 to his credit, making a capital stand; Say well (15) and Levett (13) also reaching double figures. Richard's bowling was very effective, and he disposed of nearly all the men. Witk three wickets to fall the single men obtained the required number, it being then almost dusk. The afternoon tea, which waa again generously provided by Mrs F. Y. Lethbridge, was very acceptable. Following are the scores : — Married men— Millan, b Richards, 0 ; Carr, b Richards, 7 ; Fowles, b Richards, 6 ; bay well, b Richards, 15 ; A, Knowles, low, b Richards, 0; Levett, b Richards, 13 ; C. Giesen, C. FitzHerbert, Hunter, Hill, Moore, Parr. Emergencies, P. and W. Giesen.
