' Melbourne, March 7. There was fine weather and a good attendance, including the Governor and the English and Australian cricketers. Results: — Hurdles, 2 miles — Onyen Bill 1, Cumberoona 2. Won easily by six lengths. L Time, 3min 57secs. , Champion Stakes, 3 miles— The Har- [ vester 1, Preston 2, Carnage 4. Other starters — Patron and Maroon. Carnage led into the straight, when The Harves- [ ter came with a wet sail and won easily. , Time, Srnin 45^secs. [ Mr Cook's stake in the Champion ' Stakes amounts only to Theodore was sold for i'lOo. ' Stevenson rode the winners of the last four races. The sale of yearlings included thirty of St. Albans. The latter averaged ninety-three guineas. The top price was for a colt by Eiridsforde from Spinningdale, which brought 300gs. A colt from the same sire, from Solitude fetched .£2OO 10s, and the brother of Lochiel £250. Havoc, the winner of the Australian Cup, was bred at the Wellington Park i Stud, Auckland. Mr Wilson paid £2300 i for the colt as a yearling.
