Rifle Competition at Trentham.
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, This Day. The Government has expressed to Major Sommerville a desire that he should have sole charge of the forthcoming Rifle Association camp at Trentham, and does not; intend to appoint an officer to take command as has been done previously. Leiutenant J. E. Hume, Permanent Artillery, will be on the ground as Government testing officer, in case any j ammunition goes wrong. The range is in very good order, and all the arrangements are proceeding satisfactorily. A telegraph office will be on the ground, and probably two operators will be employed. Major Sommerville says it is rather cold at Trentham just now, and advises competitors to bring an extra supply of bed clothes.
