I.O.O.F.— Manchester Unity.

. «- From latest files to hand we gather the ; following particulars relating to the mem- | bership, capital, and working of the above order, the financial position of which proves it to be the richest society in the world :— On January Ist, 1893, the Manchester Unity consisted of 461 districts comprising 4551 lodges, and having an aggregate of 709,403 members The funds amounted to £7,243,091 Is 6d to which should be added the amount of the district funeral funds, .£249,094 9s 3d, making a total capital of i.7,483,185 10s 9d, an average of £10 12s B;]d per member There was received for interest during the year 1892. on the invested capital, the sum of £270,610 12s 2d, such capital being on the Ist of January, 1892, £6,997,166 8s 6d. This would give an average rate of interest of £3 17s 4d per cent-, and such interest being divided by ! the nnmber of members on January Ist, 1893, is equal to an annual contribution of 7s B^d per member. On January Ist, 1894, the Unity had 722,725 adult" subscribering members ; 9,882 widows subscribing for funeral benefit ; 90,057 juvenile members ; 10,110 honorary members ; making a grand total of 832,774 members. The capital amount oi funds to the same date amounted to 4:8,420,452 4s 6d. For the year 1893 trayellers were relieved on 8191 occasions, and the amount granted was i-630 7s 9d. The amount of money paid away for relieving the sick and burying the dead is £3000 daily, incluning Sundays. j
