Shocking Domestic Tragedy.
(Per Press Association.) Sydney, February 26. A sad domestic tragedy is reported from Goulburn. It appears that the wife of Thomas Cross, licensee of the Robert Burns Hotel, had arranged to give a party to a number of friends, but her husband forbade the ceremony to take place, the result being a quarrel between ihe two. Later on the wife was singing with a young man lodger in the hotel, when Cross entered the room and objected, and after further quarrelling, the wife went out and locked herself up in her own room. Cross threatened to break down -the doorif she did.nbtcome out, and said he had a good mind to put a bullet into .her. _She then came out of the room and told him to do so, whereupon he drew u a revolyeif and fired, the shot taking effect behind the ear/ On seeing what ."he had done, Crqsj, placed the revolver to bis own head, and ghot himself dead. His, wife died- within the hour. ' Cross bas been drinking heavily , but it is believed that jealously was at tbe bottom of tb© affair. "
