(Per Press Association.) Dunedin, Feb. 7. A -woman named Rebecca Halforc was fined 10s and costs for failing t< register under the Infants Life Protec tipn Act. The child was that of a fire man on a steamer whose wife had lef him. He went to Mrs Halford as his best friend and asked her to take charge of the child until lie could make othe: arrangements, and she consented. A man named Stark was charged by r woman named Hayes with theft. The Eroscutrix, being under the influence oj quor, got into altercation with, and finally struck, defendant when giving evidence. She was sentenced to sevec days for contempt.
