. .*. (Per Press Association.) Washington, Jan. 27" The American gold reserve has nearly reached the lowest amount ever recorded. The Treasurer. Mr Carlisle, says the situation is trying, but the credit of the country is not involved. London. January 28. The New York correspondent of the Daily News says that owing to Congress refusing to place the currency on a gold basis distrust is spreading, and it is feared the bonds may possibly become unsaleable.
