The Midland Railway.
[Per Press Association.] Wellington, Janunry 10 Mr Dalston, accountant in the colony for the New Zealand Midland Railway Company, has arrived here for the purpose of formally serving on the Governor notice of the Company's intention to demand arbitration under the provisions of the contract. London, January 10. The Financial News condemns the treatment of the Midland Railway Company. At the meeting of the New Zealand Midland Railway Company, Mr T. Salt, the chairman, said, the Government had sacrificed the Company to political expigency, and had induced the deadlock Mr Salt told the shareholders the Go vernment had practically prevented the sale of the Company's land in small allotments near the line, and bad delayed its construction.
