ASHURST RACES.

(Per Press Association). Ashuust, December 28. Maiden Plate, 25 soys ; one mile an* a distance— Auroa 1, Charcoal 2, Mangatangaroa 3. Also ran— Heller, Cassie, | Totia, Gaspard, Ruby Twist. Totia ' made the ruuniug for a mile, when Charcoal went up and led to the turn into the straight. Auroa theu came fast through bis liorses, and down the straight was leading. Half way down the straight Charcoal came again and nearly caught Auroa who had to be shaken up to win Dividend, £2 2s. Siberia Handicap, 45 soys ; one mile — Roll Call 1, Mairua 2, Freewill 3. Also ran— Ngaru, Swordfish. This was a splendid race between the three placed horses. At the top of the straight the three were running abreast, and a slashing race homo ensued, Roll Call beating Mairua by.a short head, and Freewill a length aud a half away third, the others beaten off. Dividend, £4 4s. Visitors' Handicap, 37 soys ; seven furlongs The Miser 1, Magazine 2. These were tho only starters. The Miser led from start to finish, winning easily by three lengths. Dividend, £1 14s. Pohangina Handicap, 40 soys ; one milo and a quarter— Hotspur 1, Gunboat 2, Strayshot 3. These were the only starters, and the result was a hollow victory for Hotspur, who went to the front and was never headed, winning by five lengths, Strayshot a poor third. Dividend, 16s. Scurry Stakes Handicap, 20 soys ; five furlongs — Flying Shot 1, Voltaire 2, Dutchman 5. Also ran The Baby, Oarsmaid. Flying Shot jumped away with the lead and was never headed, winning easily by several lengths. Dividend, i' 3 13s.
