FEILDING SCHOOL.

Thk Feildiug School Committee, at their meeting last night, came to a very proper decision in connection with the present school buildings. For a long time it has been obvious that the accommodation was miserably insufficient to meet the growing requirements of the town, consequent upon tho rapid increase of population. The building now occupied has been built for many years. It has been altered and patched from tirno to time, and tho sitting room increased, but that is a long time ago. It would appear that the building was made to seat two hundred children, but now three hundred are packed into the space. With commendable prudence, as regards the health of tbo scholars, the head-teacher has utilised the passages, lobbies, and other convenient spaces, to prevent as much as possible overcrowding ; but yesterday the heat from this cause was so great that one child fainted and bad to be taken home. The ventilation is bad, and the foul air which the youngsters have to inhale was described by a committee man as abominably offensive, and calculated to promote disease. Parents have been blamed for not sending their children to school, but under the circumstances it appears to us they have a good excuse for keeping them at home if by so doing they keep their families in good health. We sincerely hope tho parents will support the committee in their efforts to obtain a building large enough and properly ventilated to meet the school requirements of tho community ; moreover, a good supply of drinking water should be provided, aud suitable outhouses erected in place of the present ones, which are very far from being perfect.
