The Victorian Elections.

DEFEAT OF THE GOVERNMENT. (PER PRESS ASSOCIAIONf. Mklbournb, This Day. The Hon. R. Bichardson (Minister of Railways), Hon. A. Baker (Minister of Customs), and Hon. S. S. Smith were defeated. Sir Graham Berry and the Hon. W. Shiels were returned. Sir J. B. Patterson is junior to a labor member. Twenty-nine old members have been rejected. The Opposition and Labor Members met with great success, and victories were marked by large majorities. Labor representatives secured 18 seats. Mr Treawith was re-elected. The following indicates the state of parties :— Opposition, 65 ; Ministerialists, 30. Those in favour of tariff reform number 58 and supporters of a high tariff 37.
