In the Senate, Senator Sherman's amendment to the tariff for a 30 per cent duty on raw wool was defeated by 37 to 32. Wool therefore remains free, and the tariff will come into operation on August Ist. The Bill was read a third time by 39 to 84. There was a dramatic scene at the passing of the Tariff Bill when Senator Till solemnly charged Democrats with being false to their partj pledges and to their i country.
