Colyton Suing Band Ball.
» ■ — ■ The ball held at Colytou last night by the Striug Baud of that place was a decided success. The night was beautifully fine and moonlight, which, no doubt, accounted for so many dancers rolling up. Between 30 and 40 couples were present, including several from Feilding and Palruerston, besides a fair number of spectators. The hall was nicely decorated with ferns and tois, and the floor had been got iuto first-class order for dancing. The music was supplied by the Colyton String Band and Haybittle's String Band, and was everything that could be desired. This is the former band's first appearance in public, and the members may feel flattered at the success they have achieved. The band is composed of — Ist violin, D. Henderson and O. C. Pleasauts ; 2nd violin, W. and E. Simpson ; cello violin, E. King ; bass, R. Shortall ; flute, J. Stewart ; clarionet, J. Pringle. Extras were very nicely played by Misses Withers (Pahnerston) and Shortall and Mr Pleasants. The catering, which was left in the hands of the committee, was very good, and full justice was done to the good things provided. Amongst those present the following may be mentioned as wearing becoming costumes, viz., Miss Withers, pink and prune ; Miss Allerb3 r , black and pink ; Miss Shortall, red and black ; Miss Withers, blue and white; Miss CLark, black ; Mrs Oliver, maroon ; Mrs Stewart, pink ; Miss Lankshear, black and white ; Miss Pleasants, pink and white. Mr R. Shortall acted as M.C., and he did his duties well, being very attentive to visitors. The Committee, with their energetic Secretary, Mr D. Henderson, worked hard, and everything that lay in their power was done to make the affair a success.
