Manawatu County Council.
[FBOM OVB. OWN COBBBAPONDBKT.] The monthly meeting of the above Council was held in the Council Chambers yesterday. Present — Crs Ransom (chairman), Hammond, Robinson, Masters, Wilson, Strang and Taylor. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, the following correspondence was read and dealt with. From Foxton Borough Council, forwarding a copy of resolution that members of Wirokino Road Board and Manawatu County be asked to meet two members of this, re raising loan to bridge the Manawatu river at Wirokino and Motoa, and that they meet at Foxton on 11th June next, at 2 p.m. From the Secretary to Treasury, intimating that the loan of £775 for forming and metalling roads in the Sandon riding had been approved and would shortly be available, but the £200 loan for purchase of land to connect McDonnell's road with the Main road to Bulls and Sandon could not be granted, as the provisions of the Government Loans to Local Bodies Act are restricted to loans made only for the construction of public works, and in the opinion of the Treasury a " purchase " of land cannot be held to come within the definition of construction. From Mr Saunders, of Motoa, asking permission to erect a gate on a road.— Granted during pleasure of tne Council, From Mr W. J. Arnold, of Campbell. town, asking transfer of sections puri chased from Mr L. Cobb.— Clerk to make enquiries from Mr Cobb and obtain bis signature to transfer. Mr J. Simpson waited on the Council, re overflow of water on to his property on Frecklington's line. — Crs Taylor and Masters were appointed to visit the locality and report at the next meeting. Cr Wilson brought up the matter of the Feilding- Awahuri road, pointing but the dangerous position of some otthe bridges. He thought if* would be far better if the Council made a deviation through Messrs Darragh's and Munro's properties, when three of the bridges could be done away with. This would be, he contended, the cheapest in the long run, besides minimising the chance of accident. He moved, That Mr Cox make enquiries of the owners affected by the proposed alteration in the Feilding Awahnri Road, and see what arrangement can be made to deviate the road, and report at next meeting.— Carried. . It was also resolved, That the Overseer take immediate steps to improve the bridge on the same road, known as Boness bridge* The Clerk was instructed to sue all persons whose names appear on » the defaulters' list after the 81st instant, without further notice. The estimates for the year 1894-95 were considered, and, after making provision for all ordinary expenses 'and proper maintenance of county roads, it was decided to subsidise each riding account (for expenditure on district roads) to the extent of £5, a total in all of £525. This would leave an estimated credit balance on March 31st, 1895, of about £50. It was decided to apply to the Bank of Australasia for a further temporary advance of £950, until the new rates could be collected, Accounts* amounting to close on £800 were passed for payment.' A special meeting was held at which tho same rates as last year were struck, to become due and payable in one sum at tho County Office, Sanson, on 20th May.
