FEILDING JOCKEY CLUB'S AUTUMN MEETING. FIRST DAY. The first day's races of the Feilding Jockey Club's annual Easter Meeting eventuated yesterday, and, as was anticipated, the sporting public .were well represented. In the morning the ' weather looked threatening, and many were the enquiries if it were going to rain, but much to the pleasure of everyone no rain fell, and as the day advanced the prospects for fine weather increased. The attendance was well up to the average and must have been satisfactory to the privilege holders, as about 1500 persons were, present. The fields were not large, the greatest number of starters being seven in the Winter Oats, and the smallest being three in the Handicap Hurdles. However, the racing was very good and the winning horses were well uacked, the dividends consequently being small. Mr Hill worked the totalisator, the amount of £3174 being passed through the machine during the day. All the officials worked diligently, and the fact that everything passed offsmoothly is sufficient proof that the stewards and committee are ths right men in tl.e right place. Mr E. Goodbehere, the energetic secretary, and Messrs Carr and Ward (who divided the duties of clerk of the scales) gave general satisfaction by their courtesy in carrying out their duties. Mr W. H. Hartgill had an easy task in judging, and Mr J. Scott acted as timekeeper. Mr E. Woods got the horses away well together and was deservedly awarded a round of applause for the start he effected in the Winter Oats Handicap. The Feilding Brass Band, under the conductorship of Mr E, F. Haybittle, discoursed music during the day. The refreshments at the publican's booth were provided by Mr H.
