Meeting at Birmingham.
A meeting of the settlers convened' by Mr Morton, was held in the Town Hall, Birmingham, on the evening of Saturday last. There was a good attendance. Mr Morton explained to the meeting that Mr A. Ferguson and himself had had an interview - with the Directors t>f the Campbelitown Dairy Factory Company and called upon Mr Fergusson to inform them of the result of that interview. Mr Fergusson in his initiatory remarks said that the committee which had been formed at last meeting to canvass the district had met with every encouragement, 175 out of the 250 shares required being taken up. ■ The following letter was read : — . "Cheltenham, "Feb. 15th, 1894. " A. Fergusson, Esq., "Secretary to Farmers Club, *♦ Birmingham." Sib, —l am instructed by my Directors to inform you that th« questions laid before them as to the basis on which a creamery in connection with this company could be established were duly considered at their meeting last night. The fol lowwere the conclusions arrived at :—The settlers at Birmingham to take up at least 250 new shares on which 10s must be paid upon application. These shares in common with all the new issue will bear a premium of 5s per share, so that there will be 15s per share to pay on application. II that be done and the requisite number of cows be forthcoming my Directors will be prepared to erect a creamery to be ready by, say, Ist November, which will be, they think, as soon as the settlers, will be ready when the state of roads, etc.j is taken into consideration. As the promoters of the creamery may wish for some information as to what has led to the alterations in the conditions on which a creamery would be established, I inclose a rough estimate of the cost. At the time the first proposals were made the Directors were under the impres-s-ion that £400 would cover the cost, and leave a margin for contingencies, but from the enclosed estimate, which is taken from actual cost at Colytoo, you will see that it would take at least £500. I may also point out that the premium money is credited to Birmingham in calculating the number of new shares which will have to be taken. Trusting that these proposals will meet the views of the settlers, " I am, Sir, " Yours Faithfully, (Signed) "Beg. G. Tbmpjceb, "JSeeretary." ESTIMATED
Total £520 0 0 Mr F«rgtion r after the letter had been discus* ad, a&ked for volunteers to ennvass and get the balance of shares take a ip, and Messrs Bell, McDermott, Fergusson, Lowes, and Bathe, offeied their services. Before the evening was over, however, a 1 the shares were taken up with, perhaps, the exception of ten, so that the venture is assured, and by the beginning of November the creamery should be in full swing.
