A NEWSPAPER MAN IN TROUBLE. HEAVY GALES ON THE AUSTRALIAN COAST. {Per Press Association.] Sydxky, January 30. The House is discussing the question of calling the editor of the evening News to the bar of the House for alleging that the members are guilty of gambling and carousing over the tables in refreshment rooms. Tins Day. Heavy gales are raging ou the northern coast. The schooner Sea Foam was washed high and dry ou the beach at Port Stevens. The crew escaped with their lives. Mr T. Bavister, one of the labor members, carried a motion iv the Legislative Assembly, by 37 to 11, against the sub-lettiug uf Government contracts. iM elbotthne, This Day. The successors to the present Railway Commissioners will only be appointed until Parliament deals with the question. Brisbane, This Day. The Postmaster -General and Undersecretary of the Post Office will represent <;he colony at the Wellington Postal Conference. ! Fearful gales aro raging along the coast. The steamers sent in search have found no trace of the Kanahookah's boat in charge of the first mate or of the Captain's party who landed. A shift of surface men at the Stockton mine have decided to Avork regardless whether the unionists or non-unionists arc employed in the mine. The Legislative Assembly decided to call the editor of the Evening News before the bar of the House, and he will appear there this evening.
