The New Stock Act.
«. The new regulations -framed under the Stock Act passed lust session are in print, and were issued as a supplement in a recent Gazette. They are to come into force on the Ist of next month. The most important alterations are as to the duration of quarantine for imported cattle and sheep, which is shortened from 90 to 60 days; the removal of the prohibition against the importation of pigs, and the abolition of veterinary surgeon's fees in connection with quarantining, except in the case of ships' stock and ships' dogs entering quarantine. There is one important provision with regard to ships' stock and ships' dogs that may be mentioned. They must bp reinpved tq quarantine within 48 hours pf arrival in pprt, or else killed or ptherwjse disposed of as the Minister direpts. There is necessity fpr great vjgilenpe ip tjie case of ship's dogs §o as to guard against the introduction of rabies, as their exemption from quarantine oilers facilities for dogs being introduced without the knowledge of the inspector through exchanges being made of ship's dogs for similar animals already here. Although the new regulations do not come into force until the first of February, the amended provisions as to quarantining will apply to all animals now on their way to the vQlQvy."—2s .%. Times.
